'Dinosaur Disco' is a recent single from the irrepressible Itty Bitty Beats, and once again they have managed to come up with something special that kids are sure to love. Here, a decidedly retro vibe features shades of Madonna and Chic, superbly merging into a sound that clearly hits the mark. Throw in some good old-fashioned dinosaur lyrics and you have the complete package. Here the kids are encouraged to imitate the dinosaur moves as they immerse themselves in a slice of musical nostalgia, where escapism and sheer exuberance are firmly on the menu.
The song, in true seventies fashion, charges straight into the chorus, with a string section floating in and out adding further texture. The verse introduces an intricate rap, slightly reminiscent of Blondie's 'Rapture', inviting the children to 'Stomp, Stomp' along, in an open invitation to let off steam. It's also worth pointing out that Rick Dees had a huge hit back in the seventies, with 'Disco Duck' so why not 'Dinosaur Disco' in the roaring twenties? There's surely room for everyone here to get down on it, and explode onto the dance floor.
This really is an ambitious song, with the duo seamlessly embracing a multitude of styles and somehow merging them into one cosmic dinosaur dance. The lyrics offer a series of instructions that invite kids to revel in the 'sweet energy' and ultimately 'disco to the dinosaur'. Lyrical potency is further achieved through subtle alliteration as we are all invited to 'strut and slide' to the groove on display. The music somehow manages to combine soul, funk, rap and disco in an effortless and somewhat esoteric blurring of boundaries.
Who doesn't enjoy a good old-fashioned disco? I'm sure the grandparents will be able to bob along with the kids, reminiscing about the good old days, when John Travolta was strutting his stuff and Chic were topping the charts. This is an enticing and ambitious piece of music that I'm sure is already popular, judging by how the duo have taken Spotify by storm. Once again, Itty Bitty Beats have hit the mark in the way only they can, with a breathtaking piece of music that provides endless fun for all the family.
